The Shelf Support

A few quick checks solve most questions.

Control + Space does not summon The Shelf

Another app may already use that global shortcut. Quit or reconfigure the conflicting app and try again.

A file shows as unavailable

The original may have been moved, renamed, deleted or stored on a disconnected drive. The Shelf keeps the reference visible so the situation is clear.

macOS asks for folder access

That can happen when The Shelf works with a location it has not used before. Approve access when you intentionally selected that folder.

Large files take a moment to settle

Large or simultaneous image drops may take a brief moment while thumbnails are prepared in the background.

A saved item is not the original file anymore

The Shelf keeps references to files, folders, links, snippets, and other current working knowledge. If an original file is moved, renamed, deleted, or disconnected, The Shelf does not invent a replacement—it marks the item unavailable so you know the reference needs attention.

Save As does not create a file

Confirm the destination is writable and that macOS has granted access. Try choosing the folder again and save with a simple filename and extension.
